War Socks

The recent form tells an interesting story. War Socks ran just yesterday, and looking back across its last six races, the pattern is one of near-misses followed by fading efforts. Two third-place finishes in a row suggest a horse that can put itself in contention, but something — whether that's a lack of a finishing kick or simply getting beaten by better horses on the day — has kept it off the top step. The runs before that, finishing sixth and seventh, point to some inconsistency that its trainer will need to work through.

At four years old, there is still time. Some horses take a while to find their best form, and a horse that has placed in a third of its races clearly has some ability. But until War Socks converts one of those competitive efforts into an actual win, it remains a horse of promise that has yet to deliver on it.
