Walson's Law won at Windsor in early June 2025, then followed up at Newbury just a month later — two wins from his last six races, which is a very different horse to the one who spent most of his career finishing mid-pack. Johnson Houghton's own assessment adds useful context here. After the Windsor win, the handicapper did what handicappers do when a horse suddenly clicks into gear: bumped him up 9lb, essentially making his next race harder to win as a kind of tax on success. She felt obliged to run under that penalty at Kempton, and the all-weather surface there didn't suit him. That run can probably be set aside.

Where Walson's Law has shown his best form is on turf, over seven furlongs to a mile — a distance range where he wins 1 in every 3 races, a significantly better record than his overall numbers suggest. That 33% win rate over that trip is the kind of stat that matters, because it tells you this horse has a specific profile: get the right conditions, the right track, the right distance, and he performs. Johnson Houghton has already flagged Windsor as a possible return, which makes sense given that's where his season turned. The plan, in her words, is to give him a bit of time and find the right race rather than force the issue.

Mostly running at Class 5 level — the bread-and-butter tier of British racing rather than the glamour end — Walson's Law is not a horse chasing trophies. He's a horse whose team understand him well enough to place him cleverly, and right now that's working. He raced just yesterday, so there's a full picture of where he stands in real time.
