What makes Walson's Law worth watching is the difference that ground conditions and riding make to his performance. He wins roughly one in every three races on fast, dry ground—he has notched up both his career victories when the track was firm—suggesting he simply prefers racing on turf rather than all-weather surfaces. Equally telling is his record with jockey Charles Bishop: the pair have won twice from six outings together, a 33% win rate that towers above the horse's general form and indicates there is a genuine partnership at work. Bishop clearly understands how to get the best from him.

Walson's Law was first saddled to win at Windsor back in June 2025, then doubled up just weeks later at Newbury before things tightened considerably. Eve Johnson Houghton has suggested she backed him up too quickly after Windsor, and the handicapper's subsequent 9lb rise made conditions tougher still. Her plan—which involved a recent run at Kempton—has not yielded results, but the trainer's instinct to return to Windsor, a track where the horse clearly thrives, makes sense. For a horse that keeps showing flickers of ability on the right surface with the right jockey, time and a carefully chosen race might yet unlock another winning effort.
