Waaqed

Waaqed is a two-year-old still finding its way on the track. The horse made its debut just over a day ago and finished second, showing enough promise to suggest there is racing ahead. With the Gosden yard — one of the most successful operations in Britain, which has already sent out 140 winners this season — behind it, there is every reason to think this is the beginning of a learning curve rather than the end of the story. Young horses often improve sharply between their first and second races as they grow accustomed to the noise, the speed, and the chaos of racing. A second-place debut is respectable enough, and Waaqed will likely have another chance soon to prove whether it can do better when it steps out again.
