The form over the last six runs tells a mixed story: a fourth, a sixth, another fourth, a third, an eighth, and a ninth. That third-place finish is the best result of late, and it hints at occasional promise, but consistency has been elusive. With no wins from six attempts, Virtue Diligence has yet to get its head in front, and the yards it is running in suggest it is being tested in competitive company.
Amanda Perrett's Pulborough yard has been sending out winners this season, which is a positive sign for anything in her care. The trainer knows what it takes to get horses to the winner's enclosure, and at three years old, Virtue Diligence still has time to improve and break through. For now, though, it remains a work in progress—the kind of horse that needs to put a winning race together sooner rather than later if it is to prove worthwhile.
