That level is worth understanding. Vingegaard has run four times in Class 1 races — the very top tier of British racing — without winning any of them. Getting a horse into those races at all is an achievement, and plenty of horses spend their whole careers never sniffing that grade. But going 0 from 4 at the highest level suggests this is a horse that belongs in the conversation without quite being able to finish it.
The partnership with Hollie Doyle is one of the more interesting threads here. Together they've raced five times and won once — that's a 20% win rate, or 1 in every 5, which is actually a better return than Vingegaard manages with anyone else. Doyle is one of the most prominent jockeys in British racing, so having her in the saddle regularly is a mark of intent from the yard.
That yard is Julie Camacho's operation up in Norton, North Yorkshire, which has sent out 49 winners already this season — a genuinely productive yard that knows how to prepare a horse. Camacho's team clearly think enough of Vingegaard to keep targeting good races, and with the horse having raced as recently as yesterday, it's clearly still fit and active. The question is whether, at four years old and with that Chepstow win feeling increasingly distant, there's another big moment still hiding somewhere in the tank.
