The recent form makes for sobering reading. Looking at the last six runs, Verified has finished tenth, missed one race, then ninth, third, third, and ninth. Those two third-place finishes stand out as a reminder that this horse can get competitive on its day, but the double-digit finishes either side of them tell the fuller story. Whatever the conditions, whatever the company, a win has not come.
The partnership with jockey N G McCullagh is the longest-running relationship in Verified's career — ten races together — but it has yet to produce a single win, which makes it more a study in loyalty than results. Trainer Gerard Keane, based in Trim in County Meath, is clearly not short of ability in his yard: ten winners already this season shows the operation knows how to get horses to the line first. Verified, so far, just hasn't been one of them.
What makes this horse worth watching rather than writing off is that it raced just yesterday, which means the team clearly believe there is still something to find. Horses who are truly spent tend to disappear from the racecard. Verified keeps showing up, and those placed finishes — five of them across 21 attempts — suggest it is not miles away. The question is whether the right race, the right day, or the right patch of ground finally unlocks what everyone around this horse presumably still believes is in there.
