Unfamiliar

Trained by Kevin Michael Smith at his yard in Kilmessan, County Meath, Unfamiliar raced as recently as yesterday, so the yard are clearly persevering. Smith's team has sent out five winners this season, which shows the yard is capable of getting horses to the line first — Unfamiliar just hasn't been one of them yet. Whether this one needs more time, a different trip, or simply a kinder opportunity remains to be seen.

At this stage, the honest assessment is that Unfamiliar is searching for its level. Seven races is a fair sample, and finishing in the bottom half of the field consistently suggests the horse hasn't yet found a race that suits. The trainer will know better than anyone what the path forward looks like — but for now, patience is the order of the day.
