Trouble In Chicago

The four-year-old has been partnered almost exclusively by Elle-May Croot, who has ridden it in five of those six races without getting close to a winner's enclosure. That is not necessarily a reflection on Croot — a horse finishing ninth and twelfth is not doing her any favours either — but the combination simply has not clicked yet, and there are no early signs that a breakthrough is imminent.

What makes the situation slightly curious is that Trouble In Chicago is trained by Ivan Furtado, whose yard in Wiseton, South Yorkshire has sent out 34 winners already this season. That is a stable in decent form, which suggests this is not a case of a struggling operation doing its best with difficult horses. Furtado clearly knows how to get horses winning — just not this one, at least not yet. The horse raced as recently as yesterday, so the team is keeping it busy and clearly believes there is something worth persevering with. Whether that faith is eventually rewarded remains to be seen.
