Start with the ground. On wet or muddy conditions, Tronido has won 2 of just 3 races — that is a two-in-three success rate, which is extraordinary. Most horses show a mild preference for one type of going; this horse transforms on a soft surface. It is the difference between a reliable performer and a serious threat.

Then there is Lingfield Park. That is where Tronido had its first career win back in June 2024, and this week — just one day ago — it went back there and won again. There is something to be said for a horse that returns to a track and keeps delivering. Lingfield has a unique all-weather surface and a distinctive layout, and some horses simply suit it better than others. Tronido is clearly one of them.

Most of Tronido's racing has come at Class 5 level — the bread-and-butter end of British racing, where competitive but unspectacular horses find their niche. At that level, it has won 3 from 15, or 1 in every 5 races. That is exactly in line with its overall career average, which tells you it is performing consistently at a level that suits it. The yard it comes from is in decent form too — Simon Dow's team has sent out 14 winners already this season, so the horses are clearly ticking over well.

Regular jockey Paddy Bradley has been aboard for 20 of Tronido's 27 races, winning 3 of them — 1 in every 6 or so. That is a touch below the horse's overall win rate, though reading too much into that would be unfair given the partnership has clocked up serious mileage together. What stands out right now is the timing: a winner just this week, on a wet track, at a course it clearly loves. Tronido is in form, in its element, and worth watching closely if the forecast stays damp.
