The first win came at Worcester in September 2025, and it was something of a surprise even to the people who trained him. Skelton bred Trigg himself and had always thought well of him at home — the horse had done plenty of work through the spring — but Worcester was his first time away from the yard, and nobody was quite certain how he'd handle it. He won. Skelton's own words were that it was "a real bonus", which tells you something: when a trainer describes winning as a bonus rather than an expectation, it usually means the horse exceeded what was asked of him. That's a good sign early in a career.
The most recent win came at Uttoxeter just this week, in May 2026 — so Trigg is very much in form right now. His last five races read 1-2-blank-2-1, meaning he's either winning or finishing second in nearly every completed race. One of those blanks sits in the middle of the sequence, but the bookending wins and runner-up spots paint a picture of a horse that is competitive and consistent rather than one that flukes the odd result. He's raced mostly at Class 5 level — the entry point of the sport — winning 1 from 3 at that grade, a 33% win rate. There's still headroom to explore what he can do when asked harder questions.
Skelton is one of the most productive trainers in Britain right now, having sent out 194 winners already this season alone. A yard operating at that volume doesn't run out of good horses, and the trainer himself believes Trigg has "plenty of improvement in him." For a horse still finding his feet in only his fifth career race, that's a compelling thing to hear from the person who watches him every morning.
