Trefor

The summer of 2025 has been the making of this horse's reputation. Back-to-back wins at Ripon in June and York in August — two of the north's most respected tracks — showed that Trefor can travel, adapt, and deliver on big occasions. York in particular carries serious prestige, and a Class 2 win there in August puts Trefor in good company. That win came just eight months ago, and with the horse having raced as recently as yesterday, it is clearly still in active campaign.

There is also a Windsor story worth telling. Trefor has run there five times and won twice — a 40% win rate at a single track is the kind of number that makes trainers keep coming back. Windsor is no easy venue either, with a famously sweeping bend that catches out horses that do not truly stay their distance. The fact that Trefor handles it so well suggests a horse that knows how to race, not just one that turns up and hopes.

Behind all of this is Charles Hills, whose yard in Lambourn has sent out 29 winners already this season. That is a yard in serious form. Hills is one of the more respected trainers operating out of Lambourn, and having a horse like Trefor in the string — consistent, capable of winning at the top two levels, and still only five — is exactly the kind of asset a yard in that kind of run wants to keep firing. The recent form reads 10th, 17th, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 1st from the last six races. Two big finishes bookending a mixed middle patch suggests a horse that goes well when the conditions suit, and the team will know exactly when to aim it next.
