What we do know is the breeding. The sire, Pether's Moon, has made a name for himself producing horses who tend to improve with experience and handle a variety of conditions. The mother's side comes through Midnight Legend, a stallion with a strong record of throwing jumpers who take time to develop but often turn out to be genuine performers once they find their feet. On paper, Tottie's Moon looks like exactly the kind of horse who might need a run or two before the penny drops — but first-time-out winners do happen, and on debut day anything is possible.
The trainer, Mickey Bowen, operates out of Haverfordwest in Pembrokeshire and has had a seriously productive season — 52 winners already, which is the kind of output that tells you this is a yard that knows what it's doing. Sending out that many winners takes organisation, patience, and an eye for placing horses in the right races at the right time. When a trainer in that form introduces a newcomer, it's worth paying attention.
