Too Much Trevor

The other pattern that matters is ground conditions. Trevor loves it dry and firm. On fast, dry ground, he wins roughly 1 in every 5 races (2 wins from 11), which is nearly three times better than his overall rate. Put him on wet or muddy ground and he becomes a different prospect entirely. He also shows something close to form over the shorter distances — 5 furlongs to 6½ furlongs brings out the best in him, with a win rate of 25 percent (1 win from 4 races), though the sample is small.

His recent form shows promise. In his last six races, he has won twice — most recently that victory at Chepstow 13 days ago. Yet he remains a Class 6 horse, the bread and butter of racing, and has never won at that level. He simply does not have the consistency or the class to step higher. Kieran O'Neill has ridden him 12 times without a win, a poor record together. But Trevor continues to race regularly and pick up the occasional prize when conditions suit. For a horse with his modest means, that is not a bad way to make a living.
