That kind of consistency at the lower end of the game is what keeps trainers and owners coming back. It is not glamorous, but it is reliable.

The trainer is Gavin Cromwell, operating out of Navan in County Meath, and his yard is clearly in fine form — 97 winners sent out already this season makes this one of the more productive operations in Irish racing right now. The regular jockey on board is Keith Donoghue, though their partnership has yet to click into something special: together they have managed 1 win from 7 races, which works out at around 1 in 7. That said, Donoghue is an experienced rider and the relationship may simply need the right day and the right ground to produce the goods.

That right day came as recently as 15 June 2025, when Tonaghneave Well won at Downpatrick — just under eleven months ago. The first career win arrived the previous summer at Kilbeggan in June 2024, so there is a pattern of summer form worth watching. The recent record, however, tells a more difficult story: finishing 5th, 6th, 6th, 8th, and 9th in five of its last six outings, with a 14th thrown in for good measure. That is a horse that is competing, showing up, but not quite finding what it needs to get its head in front.

Raced just one day ago, Tonaghneave Well is clearly still active and being campaigned regularly. With three wins already banked and a yard operating at full tilt behind it, the ingredients for another good day are there. Whether that day comes this summer — and whether it follows the same seasonal pattern — is the question worth watching.
