Before that, her form was patchy — a fourth, then a string of finishes well back in the field — so the Wolverhampton victory looked like a penny dropping rather than a lucky fluke.

She is trained by Hughie Morrison at East Ilsley in Berkshire, a quiet village in the Downs that has been home to racehorses for generations. Morrison's yard has sent out 20 winners already this season, which tells you this is a stable that knows how to get a horse ready to win. A three-month break for a two-year-old is not unusual — young horses need time to develop — and the fact that she comes back from a yard in that kind of form is a reasonable reason for optimism. The question now is whether Tinsel can build on December's breakthrough or whether that result was the ceiling rather than the beginning.
