The horse has been away from the track for around four months now, which is a notable gap. Whether that break was planned or forced by a minor setback, we simply don't know — but it means Thehunnebelllegacy returns rusty, and first runs back after a long absence can go either way. Sometimes a horse comes back sharper and refreshed; sometimes it takes a race or two to find its stride again.
What works in the horse's favour is the yard behind it. Richard Fahey, based at Musley Bank in North Yorkshire, is one of the most productive trainers in the country — 82 winners sent out this season alone is a serious number, the kind of output that only comes from a well-drilled, high-functioning operation. Fahey knows how to place a horse and knows how to bring one back from a break. The fact that Thehunnebelllegacy remains in his care after eight winless races suggests the team see something worth persisting with.
At Class 5 — the entry level of British racing — the horse has run four times without winning. That is the level where you would expect a horse to eventually find its feet if it has any ability at all, so breaking through there has to be the immediate target on its return.
