The distance range where it has shown the most is between one mile one furlong and one mile two furlongs — a relatively specific sweet spot. From eight races at those trips, it has won once, which works out at 12%, or roughly one in every eight. That might not sound dramatic, but for a horse with only one career win to its name, finding a trip that suits at all is worth noting.

Colin Keane has been the regular rider, and together they have that one win from five races — a 20% win rate, or one in every five, which is actually a strong return and comfortably the best combination this horse has found. The partnership clearly works, even if results elsewhere have been harder to come by.

Gerard Keane's yard has sent out 10 winners already this season, so this is not an operation short of form. The recent run of six races without a win — most recent form reading 13-–-4-6-7-3 — includes a couple of placings that suggest the horse is ticking over rather than going backwards. Racing as recently as yesterday, Thegooseiscooked is very much in active service, and for a nine-year-old, that enthusiasm to keep turning up is something in itself. The Gowran Park win is now nine months ago, but with the right conditions, the right trip, and Colin Keane in the saddle, another day in the sun is not out of the question.
