That Navan win, now seven months ago, remains the solitary highlight. Since then, The Love Machine has gone six races without winning, and recent form makes for difficult reading — finishing 11th, 12th, 12th, and 18th in the sequence leading up to its most recent run just yesterday. Those are mid-to-back-of-field finishes, the kind that suggest the horse is either struggling for form or being tested in company that's a little too strong right now.
The partnership with jockey Wesley Joyce hasn't clicked yet either. In seven races together, they're yet to win — 0 from 7 — which doesn't mean the combination is wrong, but it does mean they're still searching for that breakthrough together. Trainer Sean Davis operates out of Maynooth in County Kildare and has sent out two winners this season, so The Love Machine hasn't been one of them. It's a small yard doing its work quietly, and at this stage the horse needs to find something extra to reward the patience of everyone involved.
Still only three years old and racing just yesterday, there's time yet. Young horses can take a while to find their feet, and the fact that The Love Machine has already won once — at Navan, on a specific day when everything came together — shows the ability is in there somewhere. Whether it surfaces again soon is the question worth watching.
