The Iron Chef is a four-year-old returning to the track after a six-month break, having never crossed the finish line ahead of its rivals. In three races to date, the horse has finished unplaced each time, most recently running fourth before the lengthy absence. Trainer John C McConnell, based at Stamullen in County Meath, has a yard that is firing this season with 44 winners already, which suggests The Iron Chef may benefit from being back in form-heavy company. Whether this break has genuinely freshened the horse up, or whether the return will prove a false start, should become clear quickly enough in the weeks ahead.
