Trainer David Pipe explained why that day meant so much: the horse had undergone a wind operation beforehand, a procedure designed to help a horse breathe more freely at full stretch, and the result was immediate. He didn't just win — he bolted up, which in racing terms means he made it look easy. Pipe then aimed him at the Pertemps Final, a well-known festival race, where he finished 12th in what his trainer described as a messy, chaotic contest. He wasn't disgraced.

The ground matters enormously with this horse. On wet or slightly soft going, he wins 2 from 7 races — nearly 1 in 3, which is a very healthy number. On faster, drier ground, he struggles. Pipe pulled him out of a Haydock race in May 2023 when conditions turned too quick, with jockey Jack Tudor — who partners him most often — making the call to pull up and protect the horse rather than ask questions he couldn't answer that day. That kind of patience from a team is a good sign for a horse's long-term wellbeing.

His most recent win came at Punchestown in April 2025, which means he's won more recently than his last six runs suggest. Those six runs have all been down the field — finishing between fifth and ninth — so he's going through a lean spell. At nine, some horses are winding down, but Pipe noted back in 2023 that he was still filling out physically and expected to improve with age. David Pipe's yard has sent out 35 winners this season, so this is a team in form.
