The key to unlocking this horse is conditions. Put him on slightly wet ground and the numbers shift dramatically — 2 wins from just 6 races, meaning he wins 1 in 3 when the turf is damp underfoot. That is a completely different animal from the horse you see on a dry summer afternoon. His preference for longer distances tells a similar story: over two miles or more, he has won 2 from 7 races, or nearly 1 in every 3-and-a-half attempts. Both facts point to a horse who needs specific circumstances to perform, and when those circumstances arrive, he tends to deliver.

Ellison noted back in April 2024 that Terrorise had developed well physically from his younger days — he had essentially been too weak as a juvenile to show his true ability, and his early promise was masked by that. His first career win came at Doncaster in May 2024, and he followed it up with a victory at York as recently as July 2025, which suggests the form has not entirely deserted him, even if recent runs have been disappointing.

Those recent runs are hard to ignore. His last six races read 13-13-16-6-10-1, which means that York win in July sits at the end of a sequence of increasingly anonymous efforts. He raced just yesterday, so the yard will know more than we do about where he stands right now. His most regular partner is jockey Ben Robinson, and the two have a decent working relationship — 2 wins from 11 races together, a win rate of around 1 in 5-and-a-half, which is a meaningful record over a proper sample of rides.

Terrorise is a horse with a narrow window of peak conditions, and when that window opens — long distance, soft ground, Class 4 company — he is a genuine contender. Outside it, he tends to find the race passing him by.
