The pattern is consistent. In its last six races, Technology has finished second twice, ninth once, and twelfth twice, with one unplaced run. A second-place finish 24 hours ago suggests the horse is competitive enough to threaten but not quite sharp enough to deliver. Most telling is its record in Class 4 races—the level where it competes most often—where it has run seven times without a win. When ridden by A P Heskin, its most regular partner, Technology has managed nothing better than a place from six attempts together.

What's interesting about Technology is not what it has done but what it *hasn't* done, and how long it has kept trying anyway. At nine years old, it is no spring prospect. Nearly two dozen races without a winner would end most horses' racing careers, yet McConnell's yard—which has sent out 36 winners this season—continues to run it. That speaks either to genuine potential waiting to unlock, or to a horse that finds a place in the yard's routine regardless of results. For now, Technology remains a horse that turns up, finishes close, and goes home without the prize.
