Tavernise made his racing debut just a day ago, finishing fifth in what was his first time on the track. The 2-year-old, trained by Ross O'Sullivan at Kilcullen in County Kildare, has plenty of time to develop — a single race tells you almost nothing about a young horse's future. O'Sullivan's yard has already sent out 40 winners this season, so Tavernise is in the hands of a trainer who knows how to produce results. Whether this colt will prove competitive at a higher level remains to be seen, but a first run is simply the beginning of the story.
