Tanking Along

Trained by Patrick Neville out of Coverham in North Yorkshire — a yard that has already sent out 27 winners this season, so clearly no shortage of form — Tanking Along has been knocking on the door consistently. His last six runs read 2-2-3-6-1-1, meaning his two most recent finishes before the latest were both wins, and four of the last six produced a top-three place. For a horse competing mostly at Class 5 level, where the fields are competitive and margins are tight, that kind of consistency is exactly what you want to see. He wins roughly 1 in every 3 races at that level, taking 2 from 7 attempts.

Ground matters too. Tanking Along performs best on normal conditions — not too wet, not too firm — and on that surface he has won 2 of his 7 races, again that 1-in-3 ratio. When conditions suit and the track is Sedgefield, the combination looks formidable. His most recent Sedgefield win came on 10 March 2026, just two months ago, so this is not some distant memory of better days — he is right in form, right now.

Neville has described him as a giant: 17.3 hands, which means he stands nearly six feet at the shoulder. That is unusually large even by racehorse standards, and big horses often need time to find their rhythm and confidence. Neville made clear back in late 2024 that he expected Tanking Along to keep improving, suggesting the horse had not yet shown his best. Given he raced just yesterday and is clearly thriving at seven, there may still be more chapters to come — particularly if he keeps pointing his nose towards that little track in County Durham where he seems to know every blade of grass.
