Tan Rapido

Those two wins came at very different points in the horse's life. The first arrived at Windsor in July 2023, and the most recent — and more surprising — came at Chelmsford in July 2025. That 11-month gap between wins is the detail worth paying attention to: Tan Rapido has gone six straight races without winning since Chelmsford, and recent form figures of 8-7-5-7-7-2 show a horse that's finishing mid-to-back of the field more often than not, with one encouraging second place offering a faint glimmer of promise.

There's a quiet puzzle at the heart of this horse's record. Tan Rapido usually competes at Class 4 level — solid, competitive races without being the very top tier — and yet has failed to win a single one of its eight races at that level. Both of its wins have come elsewhere. That's a strange pattern that probably gives the trainer, Charlie Fellowes, something to think about when choosing where to run next.

Fellowes operates out of Newmarket, the spiritual home of British flat racing, and his yard has been in decent form this season with 20 winners. Kieran Shoemark has been the regular jockey for Tan Rapido, winning once from their six races together — that's a 17% win rate, or roughly 1 in 6, which is actually a touch better than the horse's overall record. Notably, Tan Rapido raced just one day ago, which means it's being kept busy and its the yard clearly haven't lost faith.

At five years old and raced 17 times, Tan Rapido is a horse still building its story. It has proven it can win — twice, on two different tracks — and the Chelmsford win less than a year ago is recent enough to suggest another is possible. Whether it comes at Class 4 or somewhere slightly different is perhaps the key question worth watching.
