The recent form figures — 3-3-6-4-7 reading from first run to last — show a horse that started promisingly with back-to-back third-place finishes before form dipped away, though a fourth place in the penultimate run suggested some recovery. The latest effort, a seventh, is the kind of result that probably prompted the short break that followed. At 51 days since last racing, it hasn't been a long holiday, more a chance to regroup and come back fresher.
The trainer is Charlie Fellowes, whose Newmarket yard has been in decent nick this season with 17 winners already on the board. Newmarket is one of the great centres of British flat racing, and a trainer operating out of there with a productive season running has the tools and the know-how to get a young horse right. The question for Tai Hang Pegasus is whether that experience in the saddle and on the gallops can unlock whatever has been missing in those five races so far. For a three-year-old, there is still plenty of time — horses this age are still developing, and plenty have found their stride after an uncertain start. Whether Tai Hang Pegasus is about to do the same is the interesting question.
