That kind of form from a stable matters, because horses trained by Weld tend to be properly prepared and placed with purpose. His regular partner is Chris Hayes, who has ridden him in 12 of his 15 races and won once together — a rate of roughly 1 in 12, which suggests the pair have been competitive without always converting. His first career win came at Gowran Park in June 2024, and his most recent at Leopardstown in June 2025, which means his two wins are almost exactly a year apart.

What stands out when you dig into the details is how well Tachos performs when conditions suit him. On normal ground, he has won 2 races from 8 — that is 1 in every 4, a genuinely strong number. Put him on wet or very soft ground and those figures evaporate. The one thing to weigh up is that Tachos is returning from a break of around four months, and his recent form reads 14-6-5-3-7-1 — so working backwards, his last win was followed by a seventh, then a third, and increasingly modest efforts. Whether he comes back sharp or needs a run to find his feet is the genuine question. He has shown he can win at a decent level, and if Weld has him ready, the combination of normal ground and that sweet spot in distance could bring out the best in him again.
