Sunway

Trained by David Menuisier at a yard in Pulborough, West Sussex — a stable that has sent out 20 winners already this season — Sunway earned his first win at Sandown Park in June 2023. His second came at Meydan in January 2026, where jockey Silvestre De Sousa described the performance as comfortable and smooth. "He responded well for pressure," De Sousa said afterwards, which is the kind of quiet confidence you want to hear. Sunway has since raced just one day ago, so he is firmly in the middle of an active campaign.

What makes him genuinely interesting is the level he competes at and how he keeps holding his own. Menuisier has spoken about Sunway finishing fourth in the Goodwood Cup, third in the St Leger, and putting in what the trainer called "a stormer" in the Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot. Finishing fourth and third in races like those is not failure — those are some of the most prestigious flat races in the calendar, and simply being competitive in them puts Sunway in rarefied company. "He ran his heart out," Menuisier said after Doncaster. "He just found a couple of better ones today."

His numbers show he is at his best on normal ground — 2 wins from 8 races in those conditions, a 25% win rate that is comfortably his strongest surface record — and he has shown particular promise over seven furlongs to a mile, winning 1 from 3 attempts there. Oisin Murphy has ridden him eight times and won once together (12%), a partnership that has seen plenty of big-race action without a great deal of luck. Sunway is the kind of horse a knowledgeable fan quietly respects: honest, consistent at the highest level, and apparently not done yet.
