What's interesting is the recent form. Summer Rain's last six runs show some genuine signs of improvement: a fifth place, another fifth, a fifth again, then a ninth, an eighth, and most recently a seventh just a day ago. There's nothing spectacular there, but the consistency of mid-field finishes suggests the horse has found its level and is competing consistently rather than being hopelessly outclassed. It's doing better now than it did early in its career, which is how racing often works — horses need time to learn their trade.
Craig Lidster's Norton yard has been sending out winners this season, which means Summer Rain is at least in a functioning operation. But at Class 6 level — the lower end of British racing — the horse has drawn a blank: zero wins from five attempts at that grade. For a horse competing at this level, you'd hope to see at least occasional success, and the fact that Summer Rain hasn't managed it yet suggests the yard will be looking for either a different race shape or accepting that this horse may simply not have what it takes to get its head in front. The recent active form gives hope that something might click, but 15 races in without a win is a long drought.
