What works in Stolen's favour is the stable it calls home. Eve Johnson Houghton, based in Blewbury, Oxfordshire, has been one of the more productive trainers in Britain this season, sending out 42 winners — a total that speaks to a yard that knows how to get horses ready to perform. Stolen may not have contributed to that tally yet, but being trained by someone operating at that level is no small thing for a young horse still learning the ropes.
At three years old, Stolen is at the age where most horses are beginning to work out what racing is actually about. The step from two-year-old racing to three-year-old competition is a significant one, and it takes some horses longer than others to bridge that gap. The recent fourths, coming as they do after that difficult early run, at least hint that improvement is coming. Whether it arrives soon enough to get off the mark is the question — but with a busy, successful yard behind it and youth on its side, Stolen is far from a lost cause.
