Those two runs produced finishes of sixth and then third, which tells a mildly encouraging story in itself — the horse came closer on its second attempt, and a third-place finish means it is at least mixing it with horses ahead of it at the line. No wins yet, but it is not embarrassing itself either.
What gives Stay On Tab a reasonable platform to build from is the yard behind it. Iain Jardine trains out of Carrutherstown in Dumfries and Galloway, and his team has sent out 57 winners already this season — that is a genuinely productive yard, not a small operation hoping for a lucky break. When a trainer of that output takes the time to run a young horse twice and keep it active, it usually means they see something worth persisting with. Stay On Tab raced as recently as today, which suggests the team is keeping it busy and confident in where it is heading.
At this stage, the honest summary is that this is a horse still finding its feet. Two races, one placed effort, and a trainer with a strong record pulling the strings. There is nothing flashy here yet — but young horses often need a few runs before the penny drops, and Stay On Tab has time on its side.
