The early part of his career wasn't straightforward. Trainer Martin Dunne, based at Newmarket, has spoken about how the horse was genuinely difficult to train — hard to manage, picking up issues that stopped him showing his best. That kind of disruption quietly damages a horse's record before it even gets going. So when he finally won at Catterick Bridge in April 2024, it felt like a release valve going off. Dunne was openly pleased, saying the team had been building towards that moment all year.

What followed was arguably the highlight of his career so far: two wins from just four visits to Hamilton Park, including a victory there as recently as September 2024. Winning half your races at one track is extraordinary — most horses never find a course that suits them that cleanly. Something about Hamilton Park — the tight turns, the undulating ground, the way races are run there — appears to unlock something in this horse. At most tracks, 1 win from 11 races in his typical grade tells you he's competitive without being dominant. At Hamilton, he's a different animal entirely.

He hasn't won in his last six races, with recent finishes of 2-6-6-2-7-5 — a couple of close things, a couple of disappointing runs. He raced just yesterday, so he's in the thick of a busy campaign. Jockey Duran Fentiman has been his regular partner, riding him in 14 of his races together for 1 win, which is roughly 1 in every 14 — solid enough for a horse at this level, where the competition is tight and margins are small. Dunne's yard has sent out 20 winners this season, so there's clearly good form behind the scenes.

The question with Stash The Cash is always the same: is Hamilton Park on the agenda? Because when it is, this horse is worth a second look from anyone.
