Her recent form makes for interesting reading. In her last six races she has finished third, second, fourth, fourth, tenth, and third — so strip out that one poor run and she has been remarkably consistent, knocking on the door without being able to open it. The second place in particular suggests she has the ability to compete; she just needs everything to click at the right moment.
She races at Class 5 level, which is the bread-and-butter tier of British racing — competitive enough, but a step or two below the big occasions. The fact that she cannot yet win at this level tells you she is not yet the finished article, though four placed finishes from four races at that grade means she is far from disgraced. She just keeps finding one too good.
Her trainer William Knight operates out of Newmarket in Suffolk, one of the most famous racing towns in the world and home to some of the sport's sharpest minds. His yard has sent out 28 winners already this season, which shows there is real form and confidence flowing through the operation. Startled Lady is in capable hands — and with a horse this consistent, it only takes one race for the pieces to fall into place.
She raced just yesterday, so she is very much in the thick of an active campaign. With her level of consistency and a trainer clearly in good shape this season, it would be no surprise at all if her name appeared in the winner's enclosure very soon.
