What is worth paying attention to is who has the horse in their care. Charlie Appleby's Newmarket yard has sent out 121 winners already this season — a number that puts them among the most productive operations in British racing. A yard operating at that volume and that level does not keep horses around for sentiment. If Star Of Hope is still in training and still being pointed at races, the team clearly believe there is more to come.
A seventh on debut tells you almost nothing useful. Plenty of horses that go on to win good races look ordinary the first time out, still finding their feet on a track, still learning what racing actually asks of them. The question with Star Of Hope is not where it has been — it has barely been anywhere — but where Appleby's team aim to take it next.
