The horse's last two runs tell the story of a young horse still learning but clearly capable. It won at Newcastle just this week, on 20 August, building on an earlier victory at Wolverhampton on 31 July. Between those two wins came a seventh-place finish, which suggests Star Of Commala is still working out what it does best — but the wins suggest that learning curve is steep. Trainer Jane Chapple-Hyam, based at Dalham in Suffolk, has built a strong yard this season with 24 winners to her name, and she clearly has something useful on her hands here. The fact that the horse is still actively racing, just a day after that Newcastle win, shows the yard has confidence in its fitness and appetite for racing.

At three years old, Star Of Commala is at that exciting stage where improvement is still very much on the cards. Two wins from three races is the kind of record that makes other trainers and bettors sit up and notice. The question now is whether this early promise holds up as the races get tougher.
