Trained by Marcus Tregoning, whose yard has already sent out four winners this season, St Hilda is in capable hands. Tregoning is a trainer who tends to know his horses well and places them thoughtfully, so the fact that she is still racing — she ran just yesterday — suggests the team believe there is more to come. With only two races to her name, there is simply not enough evidence to draw firm conclusions, but a place from two attempts means she has been competitive in half her races, which is a reasonable return for a horse still learning the job.

The next few months will be telling. At three years old, she has time on her side, and if the Tregoning yard can find the right spot for her, that maiden win could come sooner rather than later.
