Speechman

Speechman competes at Class 6, the entry level of British racing, and has gone 0 from 4 at that tier. That matters because Class 6 is where horses go to find the easiest possible competition — if a horse cannot win there, it is genuinely struggling to find its level. The good news, if you are searching for it, is that a fourth place is a step in the right direction, and racing at this level does at least mean the yard are trying to put Speechman in situations where a breakthrough is possible.

The yard behind the horse is Philip Kirby's operation in East Appleton, North Yorkshire — a trainer who clearly knows how to get winners, having sent out 36 of them this season alone. That is a productive yard by any measure, which means Speechman is not short of professional support. Whether the horse can finally convert that support into a first win remains the question. Raced as recently as yesterday, Speechman is very much an active project — and in racing, it only takes one day for everything to change.
