Sovereign Banter

That sole win came at Dundalk on 24 October 2025, and it remains the only time in this horse's career that it has made it to the winner's enclosure. Six months have passed since then, and the six races since have yielded finishes of 2nd, 2nd, 3rd, 8th, 4th, and 2nd — a sequence that will either read as encouraging or maddening depending on your patience. Three runner-up finishes in those six outings suggest the ability is clearly there; converting it into a win is another matter entirely.

The partnership with jockey Jimmy Dalton is now well established — 10 races together — but it has produced just that one win, giving them a shared win rate of 10%, or 1 from every 10 rides. That's not a bad ratio compared to the horse's overall record, which hints that Dalton does bring something out of it. Sovereign Banter tends to show its best form over shorter distances, between five and six-and-a-half furlongs, where it has won 1 of its 12 races in that range — again, that single Dundalk success doing all the heavy lifting.

Trainer Andrew Slattery's yard in Thurles has had a strong season by any measure, sending out 60 winners. Sovereign Banter has not been one of them this campaign, but with the horse having raced as recently as yesterday and still showing form figures full of placed efforts, Slattery clearly believes there is another win in it somewhere. At four years old, it still has time. Whether another trip to Dundalk might unlock something — the scene of its one moment of glory — is the kind of question that keeps owners coming back for one more try.
