Her trainer Karl Burke knows a thing or two about fast horses. Based at Coverham in North Yorkshire, his yard has sent out 140 winners already this season — that's the kind of output that marks out one of the most productive operations in Britain. Burke has been open about what he thinks Soul Love is: a sprinter, built for speed over short distances. When he spoke about her earlier in the spring, he was already mapping out ambitious plans, pointing to a race in France and drawing comparisons with Quiet Reflection — a high-class sprinter Burke trained to win the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot in 2016. That's a significant name to drop, and Burke is not the sort of trainer who tosses around flattering comparisons lightly.
The most recent win came at Goodwood just this week, which is as encouraging a venue as any to be winning at — Goodwood's undulating track on the south coast is a proper test, and horses who win there tend to be the real thing. Soul Love is clearly still on the rise, her the yard pointing her towards grass and better company as the season develops. Three from three with a trainer in red-hot form and a clear plan for the months ahead — this is one to follow.
