That debut fifth suggests Sorgean needed the experience of its first race before clicking into gear, which is entirely normal — plenty of horses take time to work out what racing is actually about. The step forward second time out was decisive, and winning at Wincanton just five weeks ago shows the yard has this horse moving in the right direction at a promising early stage of its career.

The trainer behind this is Harry Fry, who operates out of Corscombe in Dorset. Fry's yard has sent out 25 winners already this season, which points to a stable in strong form and confident enough in its horses to run them when they are ready. That Sorgean has been kept active — racing as recently as yesterday — suggests the team see more to come from this young horse in the near future.
