Trained by H Palmer at Malpas in Cheshire, Sontsivka is part of a yard in good form this season. Palmer has sent out 67 winners already, which speaks to the quality of the operation and the trainer's eye for getting young horses ready. That early second-place finish, fresh as it is, leaves room for improvement — but it's the kind of result that doesn't discourage. Many of the best racehorses show their real ability across several races rather than all at once. Sontsivka will have learned something from that first outing, and the next few months should tell us whether this is a horse capable of breaking through into the winner's circle.
