What makes the recent form particularly exciting is how sharply he has accelerated. Three wins from his last six races tells you this is a horse in the form of his life right now. He raced just yesterday and his last win came at Ludlow this week, which gives you a sense of how active and well he is. His first career win came at Wolverhampton back in February 2025, and since then he has developed steadily into something that looks genuinely promising. On normal ground he has won 2 of his 4 races — a 50% record that any trainer would take every time.
Martin Keighley, who trains him from his yard in Luckley, Gloucestershire, has been enthusiastic about this horse almost from the moment he arrived. Keighley noted early on that Sonic Pioneer came with strong flat-racing form — he had won impressively over a mile and a quarter on soft ground at Beverley and pulled clear of the field when second over a mile and a half at Pontefract. That kind of staying power on the flat is exactly what you want when switching a horse to hurdles, and Keighley said publicly that he believed he could be above average. After Sonic Pioneer won at Kempton, Keighley recalled that from the very first schooling session the horse had taken to jumping like he had been doing it his whole life — remarkable for a young horse of his size. He even floated the idea that a Triumph Hurdle, one of the most prestigious races in the sport for young hurdlers, might not be out of reach. He caught himself getting carried away, then admitted it was quite hard not to.
The one caveat is that his wins have mostly come at Class 5 level, the lower end of the competitive ladder, where he has won just 1 of 10 races overall. The big question mark is whether that electric recent form can translate when the class rises. Right now, though, Sonic Pioneer looks like a horse on the way up — and the team around him clearly believe the ceiling is a long way above where he is racing today.
