Someone's Wish

The most recent of those Downpatrick wins came as recently as October 2025, just eight months ago, and the trainer Patrick Morris spoke afterwards about how the race had unfolded almost perfectly — the pace up front was fierce, and jockey Jack Kennedy had the good sense to wait, hold his horse together, and let the race come to him. That kind of patient, tactical ride suits Someone's Wish, and Morris was clearly delighted to see it pay off after a lean spell.

Morris trains out of Prescott in Merseyside and has sent out 18 winners this season, so this is a yard in decent form. On normal ground, Someone's Wish wins 2 races from every 8 — 25% — which is a solid return, and at the longer distances of a mile and three or four furlongs it has claimed 1 win from 5 races. The horse competes mostly at the lower end of the class ladder, and at that level it has won 2 from 4, a 50% conversion rate that is genuinely impressive.

The honest caveat is that Someone's Wish has not won in its last six races, and regular jockey Sam Ewing is still searching for that first win together from eight attempts. But the horse raced just yesterday and remains active, and Morris has already talked about pointing it towards a two-mile chase at Down Royal — a step up in distance that could play to its strengths. If Downpatrick is where Someone's Wish thrives, Down Royal is the next logical ambition. Horses like this rarely announce themselves loudly, but find them on the right day at the right track and they are exactly the kind of runner that surprises people.
