That winless run is the defining story of Solvency's recent form. The last six results read 4-7-6-3-12-11, and while a third-place finish sits in there, the overall direction of travel has been away from competitiveness rather than towards it. Finishing sixth, seventh, and even twelfth in recent outings suggests a horse that is either finding its level or waiting for conditions and company that suit it better. At its best — first winning at Hamilton Park in September 2024, then following up at Southwell that December — Solvency showed it can win at this level. It just hasn't managed to reproduce that form since.

The horse is trained at Newmarket by James Owen, whose yard has sent out 204 winners this season alone. That is a seriously productive operation, and the fact that Solvency sits in it means it is surrounded by expertise and resource. Owen's yard knows how to place horses to give them a chance of winning, which makes Solvency's current sequence all the more intriguing — either something has just not clicked, or the right race simply hasn't come along yet. At the level it typically races, Solvency has won 1 from 5 attempts, or 20%, which is actually a perfectly respectable ratio. One win in every five races at that grade is the mark of a horse that belongs there; it just needs to find its way back to the form that produced those two victories.

Raced just one day ago and still very much active, Solvency is a horse in the thick of its season rather than at the end of one. With two wins on its CV and a trainer in fine form behind it, another good day is more a matter of when than whether.
