Smoke Them Out

Trained by T.G. McCourt out of Stamullen in County Meath, Smoke Them Out is part of a yard that has hit its stride this season, sending out 14 winners. McCourt clearly knows what he has on his hands with this horse, and the recent form backs that up. The last six runs read 2––-–1-6-8, which tells an interesting story: two strong performances bookending a quieter spell in the middle. That win — the most recent of the three in Smoke Them Out's career — came at The Curragh just two months ago in March 2026, one of Ireland's most prestigious tracks. Winning there means something. It is the home of Irish Classics and some of the biggest days in the racing calendar, so it is not a track that flatters ordinary horses.

The career began with a first win at Cork back in October 2024, which set the foundation for what has followed. Since then the horse has been a regular competitor, racing 22 times in total and picking up prize money in almost half of those outings.

One puzzle worth flagging is the record alongside regular jockey James Ryan. The two have been paired together nine times without a win between them — 0 from 9. That is a curious stat given Smoke Them Out has clearly shown it can win with other riders. It does not necessarily mean anything is wrong, but it is the kind of number that gets noticed in a racing yard. The fact that McCourt keeps booking Ryan suggests confidence in the partnership, and with the horse raced as recently as yesterday and clearly in active training, there may well be more chapters to write here.
