He has won five races from 28 outings overall, which puts him in the middle of the road as a competitor—solid but not spectacular. But his recent form has picked up noticeably. The trainer, James Owen at Newmarket, believes Sixpack has more to offer. He acquired the horse from Johnny Murtagh and sees him as capable of winning Saturday staying races—longer-distance contests that draw good prize money. Owen had considered jumping with him but has shelved that plan for now, preferring to keep him on the flat and build his record in the right conditions. When Sixpack won at Roscommon on debut for the yard, jockey Ben Coen noted that he stayed on strongly after getting the run of the race late on, a sign of genuine improvement as his fitness improved. The message from the stable is consistent: this horse needs ground that suits him, races that give him time to find his stride, and the space to make his move. Get those three things right, and Sixpack will pay his way.
