What keeps the interest alive is the stable behind the horse. Siwa Oasis is trained by Charles Hills at Lambourn in Berkshire, one of the most famous racing villages in Britain, and Hills has sent out 29 winners already this season — a yard clearly in good form and knowing how to get horses ready to win. When a trainer is firing on that many cylinders, it tends to mean the horses in their care are being placed and prepared well. Siwa Oasis just hasn't converted that preparation into a win yet.

Having raced as recently as yesterday, this is a horse very much in the middle of its story rather than at the end of one. Three-year-olds develop and improve as a season goes on, and a yard with 29 winners to its name this term is not likely to give up on a horse showing the kind of placed form Siwa Oasis has managed. Whether a first win is just around the corner or a longer wait, the next run will tell us quite a bit more.
