His recent form tells a consistent story: three solid finishes — a third place, a fifth, and another third — are buried within a run that includes some much further back efforts. Over his last six races he has picked up positions as high as 3rd but has also run 13th and 14th, suggesting a horse whose level can vary wildly depending on the field he faces. The 1 place from 7 races (a zero win rate) is typical of a horse who shows enough ability to occasionally finish close but not enough to win. Murtagh's yard has been in good form this season with 53 winners already, so the training is clearly not the issue — Sir Trancealot simply appears to be out of his depth in most of the races he is entered in. For now, he remains a work in progress.
