Sir Rock

The numbers tell a quietly impressive story for a horse at this level. Four wins from 26 races — roughly 1 in every 6 and a half outings — is solid enough, but the detail is where it gets interesting. Three of those four wins have come at Fontwell Park, a tight, twisting little track in West Sussex. That's 3 wins from just 10 races there, meaning he wins 30% of the time when he walks into that particular parade ring. For context, most horses win roughly 1 in 10 races at any given course. Sir Rock wins 3 in 10 at Fontwell. That's not coincidence — that's a horse who has found his place in the world.

Ground matters too. On slightly soft, cut-up ground, he's won 2 of his 5 races — a 40% win rate that would make most trainers sit up. But ask him to perform on heavy, muddy winter ground and it's a different story. Trainer Toby Lawes, who runs a small but productive yard in Beare Green, Surrey — eight winners already this season — puts it plainly: Sir Rock is a fun horse for a local syndicate, but deep winter ground at his time of life just doesn't suit him. The clue is in the calendar. His first career win came in May 2023. His most recent win came in May 2025. Both at Fontwell. Both, almost certainly, on decent spring ground. There's a pattern there, and it's a useful one.

Jockey Kevin Brogan knows him well — they've teamed up 10 times and won twice, a 20% win rate that's meaningfully better than the horse's overall record. His last six runs look bumpy on paper (a win sandwiched between blanks and a seventh), but he raced just yesterday and is clearly still in training.
