Her first win came at Chelmsford on 29 January 2026, though by the sound of it, nobody was jumping for joy in the grandstand. Ed Walker, who trains her out of his yard at Upper Lambourn in Berkshire, admitted afterwards that the race was "hard to watch" — not exactly a glowing performance review. But he also made the point that she has always looked better than her results suggest, which is the trainer's polite way of saying: patience, there is more to come. That first win clearly mattered more for what it promised than for how it arrived.
What followed bore that out. Less than three months later, Secret History returned to win at Wetherby on 26 April — this week — making it two wins from four career races, or exactly half her races ending in victory. Walker's yard has been in fine form this season, sending out 75 winners, and this horse looks like one of the more interesting projects on the books. Walker has already flagged that she probably needs seven furlongs to show her best, and that the long-term target is the Sandringham — a prestigious fillies' race at Royal Ascot that is one of the highlights of the flat season.
In other words, Secret History is not being aimed low. The plan is to let the official handicapper do his work, build her rating through the summer, and then point her at one of the bigger stages the season has to offer. With a win rate of 50% — one in every two races — and the yard who clearly believe she is operating well within herself, there is every reason to think the best chapters of this particular history are still unwritten.
